Accessibility Statement

We support people who are autistic, who have learning disabilities and who live with mental ill health. A website that is difficult to use would be a poor advertisement for that. This page sets out what we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

What we have built in

  • A skip link to the main content as the first focusable element on every page
  • Visible keyboard focus on every interactive element, never suppressed
  • The levels of support scale is operable by keyboard, using arrow keys, Home and End, and is announced as a tab list
  • Every form field has a permanently visible label rather than placeholder text alone
  • Text colours meet or exceed the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against their backgrounds
  • Animation is limited to a short fade and rise, and is disabled entirely when the operating system requests reduced motion
  • The coverage list that scrolls horizontally is duplicated visually, but the duplicate is hidden from screen readers so the areas are announced once
  • Images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative images are hidden from assistive technology
  • The site is readable and operable at 200% zoom and on a narrow screen
  • No advertising or analytics scripts, and fonts are served from our own domain, so pages load quickly on a slow connection

What we know is not perfect

  • The site is a single long page with in-page navigation. For some people using a screen reader, separate pages would be easier to move between, and we intend to split the content as the site grows.
  • Some body text is set at a light weight against a dark background in the levels of support section. It meets the contrast threshold, but we would like it to be more comfortable than merely compliant.
  • We have tested with keyboard navigation and automated tooling. We have not yet completed testing with people who use screen readers day to day, which is the test that actually matters.

Standard we are working to

  • We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA.
  • This statement describes the site as built on the date below and is not the result of a formal third-party audit.

If any part of this site is difficult to use, email referrals@supportliving.co.uk and tell us what happened. You do not need to know the technical reason. Describing what you were trying to do is enough.

We will reply within five working days, and if we cannot fix something quickly we will offer the information another way — by telephone, by email, in large print or in an easy-read format.
